Should I update GPS SD card 2015 Camry Hybrid?
Wife recently drove car about 500 or so miles round trip - said that GPS seemed a little slow, and maybe didn't provide as much info as she's used to in this car. For example, normally the system will give advance warning of accidents ahead or traffic backups - this time, the information was sporadic.
Today, while getting service at local dealer, I asked a person in the parts department about whether or not the system needed to be updated. He volunteered that it was very possible it might - after looking up my car model, he said that there is an SD card that I can replace - it costs $169 from the dealer. Told him I'd think about it.
Got to looking on my phone. I can get a 2020 update SD card from Amazon for $44. But, after checking the reviews for this card, they were about 60%-70% negative. Many said that their systems either didn't work at all afterwards, or didn't work right. A few said that their systems were fine afterwards.
With that in mind, I spoke to the guy that wrote up my work order about whether or not it was a good idea to do this. He was somewhat neutral, saying that an update would show any new roads that have been added in the 6 model years the system has been in the car. His demeanor seemed to be saying that whether or not it was worth the cost was up to me, but that I got the impression that he would not.
So, I'm asking on here - Yay or Nay on updating the GPS Navigation System?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

How about don't know.
Others have complained about navigation lag.
What was your experience using this GPS?
Could the satellite signal have been weak or a bad antenna connection? There supposed to be calibration mode which allows viewing the signal and other criteria.
Does the car have Entune?
Suggest you review the manual for the navigation system the car has. The info has details such as how traffic is received and on displaying traffic info.
The link below has access to official Toyota owners manuals.

The issue is updated maps may be just that, as in maps only. The actually updated operational software may be a different thing. That was something about Toyota updating the operational software via the Smart phone application.
$169 appears on the low end of what dealers charge. Ebay also sells SD cards with claims they are real for around $40. Can also check feedback here.
