2000 v6... camshaft position sensors ARE NOT PLUGGED IN!!. And car runs fine!!

Default 2000 v6... camshaft position sensors ARE NOT PLUGGED IN!!. And car runs fine!!

I have a 2000 v6 xle and it tends to idle a little high not tooo bad but usually around 1k rpms and it is running rich and smells like burned fuel almost, a really strong exhaust smell. It does not have any codes stored at all. It does not have a rough idle of any kind. Im suprised because the car runs really smooth amd good other than the smell and slightly high idle and a little bit of whitish greyish smoke from exhaust very very faint. ALSO I CANT WRAP MY HEAD AROUND WHY THERE IS NO HARNESS PLUGGED INTO BOTH CAMSHAFT SENSORS. I LOOKED FOR THE CONNECTORS BUT THEY ARE NOT THERE AT ALL. THE CSPS OR SIMPLY JUST UNPLUGGED BUT THE CAR RUNS FINE? ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY THAT IS? ENGINE SWAPPED? OR SOME SORT OF MOD?

How was the car acquired?

Pictures of these sensors?

This engine should have only one camshaft sensor. Located on side of engine near dipstick. Looks like photo in link below:

You're right actually, i was confused i seen a diagram online showing 2 csps but there is only one i just noticed right by the dip stick. These 2 sensors are located in between the heads maybe knock sensors?

Yea looks just like it, trying to figure out why they were left disconnected and why there isnt any connectors hanging around for it.

Was this engine rebuilt. Or had a head swap?

That would be a variable valve timing solenoid. It’s not necessarily needed for everyday driving, especially if not on a freeway. But it can help the car perform better economy and power wise, by changing valve lift when activated. If it’s been unplugged it’s likely someone left it like that on purpose, maybe throwing a CEL because of it.

It does appear a VVTi valve, yes.

This car is supposed to be a 2000. VVTi was not added to the V-6 Camry until 2002. Thus a possible engine or head swap with a later year.
