Question 2003 camry 2.4 engine difference

Hello all, I have a 2003 camry 2.4L and I blew the head gasket. So I got a used engine and was advised it would fit. I have noticed that the front motor support is lower than the new engine and throttle body is Manuel and not electronic. Question is, did Toyota have different engines for the 2.4 or did I get an older engine? I am not to familiar with these engines, thank you for your response.

In the US, this engine was also used in Corolla, RAV4, Scion, Highlander, Matrix and Solara.

Camry always used an electronic throttle on this engine model. This engine appears to be not from a Camry.

Is the motor mount attachment location on the block different or just the attached mount. If the block is different suggest returning the engine.

This is a common repair for pulled head bolt threads in the block if this is the issue.

Thank you for your reply I am in the process of returning the engine. I look at the repair for the head gasket and I don't think it would work with mine. I pulled a plug out and it was soaked with coolant. The oil has oil also, kiddo finally told me that the car overheated several times before he told me. Thanks for the info.

The repeated overheating would do it.

Find out why the engine over heated. It happens the fan system on the radiator fails. This results in overheating during prolonged idle and stop and go.

If getting another engine. Get some kind of warranty. Then monitor the new engines oil and coolant consumption during this time. The engine had both excessive oil consumption and head bolt thread issues.
