Default Head bolts stripped on 02 XLE

My dealer gave me the bad news that the head bolts had stripped on my 02 Camry XLE. The car has 96,000 miles. All the coolant ran out and the only fix is to replace the block. That will be nearly a $6,000 fix.[]

Anyone else had a similar problem? How has Toyota responded?

Default RE: Head bolts stripped on 02 XLE

My dad got the same news on Dec 22. We thought it was the head gasket and now because of the stripped bolts he needs to have the engine replaced. Car only has 91 000 miles (145 000km). He's being quoted $5800 to repair it. We've filed a complaint with Toyota and we're waiting for their response.

It appears from looking at a few sites today that this may be a problem with the '02-'03 cars....

Good luck.
