hole in air filter cover?

hole in air filter cover?

1993 camry 4 cyl.

had some engine work done recently...

noticed that there is a 1 inch hole in the side of the air filter cover/enclosure that appears like something should be in there like a sensor or something?

The is a inlet air temperature sensor that slides into a grommet on the housing.
