New car and transmission is not smooth
Hi I just bought a new Camry 2009 and I've driven it less than 2K miles. My question/concern is that early in the morning when I shift it in reverse to back out of the garage the gear kicks in a little harder than I like, and you can feel it. When the car warms up the shifting gets smooth.
Is this normal?
I apologize if this question seems dumb; I have always had manual trans cars; thus I never had to deal with this. The reason I got an auto is that I actually got a better deal with an automatic than with a manual. go figure.
Thanks
Oz

When you 1st start the car- the engine speed idles high to speed up the warm up process. If you shift into any gear at this higher engine speed- you will feel the engagement. You don't feel it when its warmed up simply cause the engine speed drops down to normal idle after the engine is warmed. What you are experiencing is normal.
