Rear main seal leak - 97 Camry 4 cilinder
Regarding a small rear main oil seal leak in my 1997 Camry 4 cylinder automatic transmission with 108,000 miles:
I dread spending more money maintaining and fixing this car at this time. It leaks oil from the rear main seal on the left (drivers side of the engine) next to the automatic transmission. It leaks about 1 teaspoon every day and not enough to make a difference on the oil dipstic when I check it every two weeks.
I hope to let this oil just leak and drive the car which is operating fine without spending more money on repairs. Are there any concerns with this? Such as:
Oil leaking into the transmission or something else and damaging it? Oil catching on fire?

you can always go to pep boys or something and get a can of oil stop leak. most are safe. some (claim) they re-condition oil seals.......read the labels carefully. and if you ever have it replaced, go for some of the better seals, like from Fel-pro, or even toyota original parts. if the car is not burning any oil, and runs great, then a new set of gaskets will do you well. gotta be about $400 job.
