1997 model year power lock problem
Along with a host of other miscellaneous problems, my 1997 Camry LE has started intermittently pulsing the power locks in my car when i'm driving-however, the locks do not physically move. I can hear the "chunk" noise associated with the power locks, and when I reach over and lock my drivers side lock by hand, it unlocks itself. The power lock switch in my door does not work during these periods. It also makes a noise, but the locks do not move. Turning my key in the door still unlocks and locks all doors when the car is off-can anyone suggest a solution?

somewhere between eigher the passenger or the drivers door lock switch is an intermitant short.. ..so if you are willing to fix this yourself you will need to be knowledgeable with electrical system...you will also need a wire diagram.and volt meter.
sorry no easy answer

if your not good with electronics go in and look for the simple things it could be a bare spot on the wire or something to. You never know. If its not obvious and your not comfortable take it to get looked at.
one good place to check for faulty wiring is going to the drivers door from behind the interior kick panel by where your left foot would be if you were driving. I had a problem with the power locks and the left stereo speaker in my 93 and the wiring within that black rubber weather protecting boot were all cracking and breaking from opening and closing the doors all those years. since all that rubber is there to keep the water out you will have to either have to carefully cut it away and then retape it all back up again after (the hack way) or if your experienced enough the right way would be to pull off the divers door inner panel, disconnect everything from that wiring harness, then do the same inside the car, (mine had 2-3 bulk connectors that plugged in just below the fuse box. Once you get all those undone you can pull the hole wiring harness through the inside of the door and out. Of course I would only do this if you've found a wire or wires broken by first pulling back the rubber. Good luck. If your not an auto tech it'll take a while and probably be a little frustrating.
