Johnny in the UK here.

I have a 2.2ltr Automatic CAMRY
Purchased new in 1995 still going strong 122.000 miles now
I have an oil leak that looks to be to the LEFT of the Rocker Cover looking at it.
Thats our drivers side
Its been over a year now. Not loosing lots but marking the home drives
and its not going down well with you know who.
I am 82 now so don't dive in as much as I did.
2 Shops says its the power steering but I am not adding any fluid to the dash pot. But I think the leak is Left of the rocker cover then finds its way over
the Power steering area.
TOYOTA want 3 hours to find it, at £100 per hour.
What's left of the Rocker that might cause this leak.

leaks on the drive belt side ......

when parked for the night lay cardboard or paper under the hot motor

see what drips engine oil or other

most brands of powersteering oil is red

if you cant locate the spot of the leak
degrease the engine area with off the shelf can of degreaser spay and garden hose

try again

if engine oil could be rocker cover leak
or timing cover seal if the leak is lower

 

Left side has the timing belt cover. Under the cover is the cam and crankshaft oil seals and the oil pump seal.

The cam/crank seals leaks tend to be minor. The oil pump seal can be a slow but steady drip with engine running.

If the leak is from under the timing cover. If directly under the crank area it is most likely a cam/crank seal. If from under a bulge in the side of the cover near the firewall it may be the oil pump.

If oil pump the leak can get worse.

Thanks for the info guys.
I called around the shops later yesterday to get a " steam clean"
on the motor but they don't seem to do it now.
All nervous of electrical trouble.
I have the Camry booked in on Thursday for its yearly MOT.
So we will see what they come up with as I have asked that the try
to find it.
Its not a big leak just makes a mess.

I will get back as soon as I get this sorted "hopefully"
