Default 2000 Camry Flex pipe broken

OK, So the Flex pipe after the CC that connects to the manifold split in half. I let it go for a while and it was noisy the check engine light never came on. So rather than spending the cash, a guy who works on cars gave me some thing sheet metal and some clamps and said to wrap that around that a few times to get by. So I did and no more noise! Now the check engine light is on...What gives? I'm wondering if I just need to clear the code and reset it instead.

I had a mechanic look at it. He said it need to be cut out and replaced....He'll do it for the low, low, price of $217.40. His shop motto is "Finally...An Honest Mechanic"
