2000 Camry high mileage oil? door handle and mirror?
My '00 Camry has about 110k miles on it and I was wondering what oil you guys recommend for a high mileage car? Also, the driver's side door handle and mirror are broken. Are these difficult for a 'shade tree' guy like myself to change out???
Thanks,
Dave

I'd just use whatever brand-name oil is cheapest that meets the requirements of the owner's manual. Mobile, Quaker State, Pennzoil, etc 5W-30 is what I always use. Whatever you do, don't start using synthetic unless the car has been using synthetic for its entire life.
I can't help you with "body" issues though.

davj3368, why do you want to use a high mileage oil? Unless you are having certain problems sestivers is right about using off-the-shelf oil with grade spec'd by the owners manual. The important part is keeping it changed at regular intervals.
I also can't comment on door handle and mirror, but I have done a couple on other cars and it's doable with basic skills.
The reason I brought up the 'high mileage oil' was because I was thinking that my car may need some engine detergents to get rid of sludge buildup. I'm sure there is some there. My car's engine is running fine, but I have noit been the greatest at changing oil every 3000 miles.
Ok, I guess I'll stick with conventional oil for now. As to the door handle/mirror, I'll probably order replacements off of Ebay and give it a go.
Thanks,
DJ

Castrol GTX now says it, "Fights Sludge". Not sure what that means. You could remove the valve cover and inspect for sludge. Synthetic does clean better and reduce sludge. You can also get a product I have used called, "AutoRx" that dissolves the sludge and puts it in suspension in the oil and also removes it to the oil filter. For engines over 100k they recommend two applications. I used it on my car when I purchased it at 135k just to make sure everything was clean inside. I use Castrol GTX 10w-30 for now. I am going to do an engine oil analysis when I get 3k on this oil change. From there I will determine if I will use synthetic or not. If I gosynthetic I will do longer drains thatwill offset the price and justified by oil analysis.
