Default 88 manual clutch chatter

Hi Everybody,
This is my first post and unforunately it is about a problem I'm having on my Camry.
I hear a chatter sound when the car is idling. The sound goes away when I depress the clutch. The cluth was replaced about 25 K miles ago as well as the throw out bearing and There is no oil leak that I know of. I replaced the tranny and the clutch, flywheel surfaceand bearing lookedlike newso I reused them. The tranny was used with 149,000 miles. I didn't notice any chatter on the old tranny. I aslo noticed this tranny has a shorter gear ratio (probably from a celica with 3sfe). Any Ideas to where the chatter is most likely coming from. Could it be anything other than the clutch or pressure plate?

Sincerely

Mikey

hate to say it but most likely is your throw out bearing. i had a buddy with an mx3 that had the same problem.

I don't think it's your throwout bearing as that sees no stress until the clutch is pressed. I suspect the transmission is going bad. You could take an oil sample and send it out for analysis (Blackstone Labs) to see which metalsare above normal. That will cost about $20. I would change the trans oil for now and see if that improves it. Otherwise justdrive until it fails completely as it is an 88 with about 225K and doesn't owe you anything.
