90 Camry acceleration question?
My daughter just got a 90 Camry. Runs great except it doesnt have much power. You have to push the pedal way down to get some power. It is an automatic. If you manually shift it has more power. And on hills you have to go down to 2nd. Other than that it runs great. We also noticed that the normal and power mode goes in and out on the dash lights. It doesnt matter what one you have it in. We were going to change the fuel filter but cant get the bolt off of the top.

Try to determine if it is an engine problem or a trans problem. Sometimes the trans torque converter fails resulting in requiring a LOT of gas pedal to go a small MPH.
The fuel filter seldom plugs up but a plugged filter can cause low power. If changing the filter use a special tube fitting wrench to prevent rounding over tube nut. Make sure use 2 wrenches, one to hold the filter can.
Same for the bottom fitting.
The filter fittings can be very difficult to unbolt!
How does the engine idle, does it run smooth, miss,?
Pull the trans dipstick and check the fluid color and smell. If jet black and has a burned odor this is not good.

Going to take the car to the Toyota dealer Monday to see what could be wrong. If it is too serious we will drive it till it dies. Keep local driving. She only drives 1 mile each way to school and our town is only 5 miles from one end to the other. Tranny fluid looks good.
