94 no start when warmed up
I have a 1994 2.2 4 cyl. That will not restart after driven and warmed up.I checked for spark coming out of distributor when this happens and there is no spark, so it is a spark issue and not fuel. If i let the car sit for a few hours it starts like nothing ever happened. I have been following the maintenane manual but it doesnt go deep enough. I have fulll power going to ignition coil when key is on but beyond this i dont know how to troubleshoot the distributor not putting out spark. This is the second distributor, Ireplaced it 2 days ago thinking it would fix the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Yes new pickup and ignition coil. Do you happen to know what would only affect the spark on ignition oppose to while it is running because like i said it will run all day long but if shut off that where the problem is.
If the starter never starts, then maybe look into starter relays, since problem happens only during warm engine condition. I know toyota trucks had problem like this and problem was starter relay when it wouldn't start when engine warm. And truck also had bad starter contacts when no start in morning and made clicking noise. Now if you car does crank over and just never runs, then maybe somethingels.
The engine gets hotter after shut down before it gets cooler. I assume that if you shut the engine down and immediately try to start it, it will start, but if you let it sit a couple of minutes it won't start?? The ECU is located outside engine bay so I don't think heat is affecting that. Not much to the 94 ignition wise. If you had a crank angle sensor I would point to that. The only other two components are the distributer (coil, pickup, capacitor) and the ignitor. I assume the dist. also came with new capacitor (condenser for older folks). I would still assume coil. Why don't you buy a can of CO2 that is used for cleaning computers. Drive the car til hot, shut it down, let it sit acouple of minutes and tryre-start. If no start thentake the distibuter cap off and spray CO2 onto the coil, replace cap and try re-start. If that doesn't work spray the ignitor.
I have this EXACT problem on my 4 cyl. 95 Camry. If Marswus already changed his complete distributor, shouldn't that elimate it as the problem?I think theIgnitor is on the strut housing so it wouldn't get as hot as the distributor.
How does the story end?
Thanks!!
