95 camry 2.2 intermittent check engine light
#3
normal driving. This is my wife's camry. I have driven it several times. Have not seen this happen. Recent work: replaced both axles (that is when it started), replaced radiator. Can you still get a code reading when the light is off?

The 95 uses a pre-ODBII system. You can readout any codes yourself without a code reader.
Here is how:
Inside the engine compartment look on the passengers (or maybe drivers) strut tower mount (where the upper portion of the strut bolts to the chassis). There should be a small, plastic rectangular box, open the lid and there will be electrical connection terminals.
Find the Tc and E1 connectors.
Turn the ign switch on and use a section of wire or a bent paper clip to connect these two connectors.
If a codes are stored the CEL light will flash out the 2 number code, 1 number at a time.
Example: 2 flashes, pause, 1 flash, longer pause = code 21.
If more the one code is stored they will read out from lowest to highest number.
Once any codes are readout, they will repeat.
If no codes are stored the CEL will flash at a steady rate.
Do an internet search on the code number plus the word Toyota.
The computer does not monitor every sensor. Axles and radiator are not monitored. The coolant temp sensor for the computer is.
Ask your wife if she can discriminate when the light comes on and goes off. Such as highway driving, stop and go, idle, acceleration, before the engine is warmed up, etc.
Not all the cars the systems work at all times, some shut off at certain times.
