98 camry 2.2 idle issue
I have a 98 Camry with 413k miles. The car is a 2.2 with a 5 speed transmission and runs very well. the only problem I am having is that when it gets to operating temp it wants to rev up a couple hundred more rpms when you push in the clutch and change gears and will hold them rpms for a few seconds before it drops back down. It only does this when warm it is normal when cold. It gets great gas mileage and does not have any check engine lights on. I have cleaned the iac valve, egr valve, and checked all vacuum lines for leaks and am out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I said it runs great it is just kind of annoying.
So that I understand: You are driving along and the car is up to operating temperature. You go to shift gears and while the you push the clutch all the way in, the rpm's rise a couple of hundred before coming back down. Is that correct?
If it is correct, then you have what is called shift flare. Shift flare is typically the sign of a worn clutch pack. Sometimes, changing the transmission fluid is enough. Your car has high miles, I suspect the clutch is due for a change.
