98 camry won't start when cold
My daughter has a 98 4 cyl Camry with 70k miles. recently, when she attempts to start the car after sitting overnight, she turns the key to the start position but nothing happens. The motor does not turn over, there is no attempt to start. After turning the key to the off position and back to start, it will start on the third or fourth attempt. Once the car is warm, it will start all day with no problem. The battery was replaced less than a month ago. Can anyone think of anything that could cause this such as the starter solenoid? In advance, thanks for any help.
First thing I would do is make sure all your battery and starter connections are clean and tight. If the battery was replaced but the terminals were not cleaned or tightened then that may be the problem. Also remove and clean the terminal connections at the starter, but disconnect the battery first. This is something you can do yourself with a wire brush. There could be a short in the starter or even a faulty ignition switch so if cleaning does not correct then you'll have to check further.
