Hi, I need some help to take off 2 stubborn tire lug nuts on my 2012 Camry SE. I was able to use a 21 mm deep socket to take the other nuts off but there on two on the drivers side that are so tight, all I am doing is crashing the nut. Now, the socket and the lug nut wrench from the car can no longer get a grip on the nut. What can I do to get this off? Is the 21 mm the correct socket to use? I can find this out anywhere online, or at the parts counter of my local dealer. Can these lug nuts be substituted with regular steel lug nut?

Are you working on steel wheels? Was the socket you used a 6 point or 12 point? Always use a six point because tire guys love to impact wrench those nuts. If I don't have and impact wrench myself, I use the iron that came with the car. I usually still have to stand on it to break them but I've never rounded one off. Who had your tires off last? Might want to take it to them. If the lugs are recessed into the wheel (mag rims, etc.) this is going to be tough and without the proper tools, even tougher. I've seen a socket that actually had blades inside of it and the socket was hammered onto the lug. Then an impact wrench attached and gave that thing hell. I've never done it though.

 

I would try what Patonium suggested but first I'd put the other back on and tighten them up good to try and take the pressure off of the two that are too tight.

 

Thanks for replying. I used a 21mm six sided socket. They are aluminum sport rims with aluminum nuts. The nut with problem is the first nut I tried on the front drivers side, so the other nuts still had the pressure. I heard about a special socket, I will have to look into it.

Right, but if you tighten up the others even more just a little bit then it relieves some pressure on the that one.

 

I was thinking along those lines. Here is a company that specifically makes sockets that deal with acorn sockets. http://www.ltitools.com/LTwebcatalogview.pdf look at page 3 LT-1240. I not sure what implied by chrome cap buster but it claims to remove the nut. So, do I go with a twist out or the LT-1240. Thanks Paul

 

LT-1240 looks to be able to do the trick. A chrome cap is basically the coating on the nut makes it shiny and pretty. I think both could do it but the 1240 looks pretty nice. Check out youtube, maybe they got some videos on there.
And like Toyotaguy said, put the other nuts on for pressure relief.
