Check engine light with Overdrive light flashing
Hello to All!!!
I am a newbie here and I have an annoying intermittant problem with our Camry.
We have a 2000 CSX Camry (Australian Model) a very nice car!!
For a good while now The check engine light appears and the Overdrive light flashes (one in a blue moon) It doesn't matter if you are traveling at 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100km per hour.
I have been to a Toyota dealership to see what error codes have been displayed and I have had a very bad time.
The Camry at this time has only done 92,000k
After spending 4 hours at the Dealership and parted with $300.00 later to find out the error code is P0
Now I am at a very big loss. And so is the Toyota Dealership they have no idea!
I have replaced the timing belt at 100,000k and the light has not displayed but yesterday the light came on again!!
Currently the camry has done 102,500km
The Check engine light is solid and the O/D OFF light flashes for about 5- 10 minutes and then turns off.
The lightcomes back on straight away if you turn off the engine and restart.
It doesn't appear to affect the motor or gearbox in any way that I can notice.
I would be most appreciative if anyone could help me, I am in Brisbane Australia.
Cheers
Rob

After you get your money back, I would suggest visiting another, more competentrepair shop/technician.

RE: Check engine light with Overdrive light flashing
For comparison in the US the Toiyota dealer charge for diagnostic is around $100.
The codes should be something like Pxxxx such as P0135. The code given to you is incomplete or no codes were found.
The O/D light flashing means the computer has posted a trouble code dealing with the transmission. The check engine light being on may mean this problem also effects the engine.
Your car must have some kind of built-in diagnostic system that has a plug-in for a scanner. Would think any shop that did repairs on later model cars should have a scanner to read the codes.
Without the codes would just be guessing at the problem.
