Question Diagnosing a P0303 2000 Camry 1MZ-FE engine

I've recently successfully changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires on a 2000 Toyota Camry with the 1MZ-FE engine, as mentioned in my prior post (https://www.camryforums.com/forum/ge...23/#post107359). While the engine is running much better and the #3 and #5 rear plug wires were bad, I'm still left with a P0303 code and a pronounced misfire on cylinder #3. Does anyone have a good + safe way of testing the coil pack on this type of engine that fires two cylinders off one coil pack? I'm thinking of swapping two of the coils around to see if the misfire moves, but was curious to see if there was a way to test the coil pack with a multi-meter. If the coil pack isn't bad, I also need to test the #3 injector. Any other thoughts on tracking down and solving this misfire on cylinder #3?

Toyota has resistance specs for the ign coil igniter.

What brand of ign coil? Asian or Diamond or ?

Check primary and secondary resistance hot and cold and post back.

Can you possibly please post the resistance values (hot & cold) for each two types of factory ignition coil that you mentioned (Asian & Diamond)? That should help myself and others. Also, where do I check the resistance values of these coils? Is that where the wires plug into the side of the coil?

As an FYI, the coil packs that are on the motor are Diamond 90080-19012. I'm suspecting that the coil that currently fires cylinder #4/3 is bad. To do a quick test, I moved the coil over cylinder #6/1 to the cylinder #4/3 spot and the coil over cylinder #4/3 over to the cylinder #6/1 spot. Sure enough, the misfire code changed to P0301 at the scanner. I'll order new coils and report back. Are there any aftermarket coils I should avoid as replacements for 90080-19012?

Any P0300 code with the other code?

Check ign wire resistance. Should be 25K ohm or less.

Cold = up to 122F Hot = above 122F

Check ign coil

Primary resistance (between 12v connections of coil)

Cold 0.70–0.94 ohm

Hot 0.85–1.10 ohm

Secondary resistance (between high voltage connections of coil)
Diamond brand Cold 6.8–11.7 kohmDiamond Hot 8.6–13.7 kohm

Swapping coils is SOP for diagnostics.

Thanks for the resistance values. That's very helpful information. The only code that was present after swapping the coils was a P0301. The previous code was a P0303 prior to the coil swap. It seems that the misfire moved to the location with the bad coil. I've ordered a new set of three coils via Rock Auto. Just awaiting them to arrive so I can install the 3 new coils. It appears that all of the existing coils are original. Just FYI, I recently installed new Denso Iridium spark plugs and new NGK plug wires as per my earlier post (https://www.camryforums.com/forum/ge...23/#post107359). The spark plug wires on the car were original and sorely needed replacement. Two of the original wires (#1 and #3) broke off during removal.

Just to follow-up, replaced all three coil packs on the motor. Also, changed the coolant temperature sensor and the thermostat due to another code that pointed to those items. Changed the coolant while I was at it, as it looked very old and rusty. Started the engine up and it idled smooth as butter. Took it out for a test drive locally and on the highway. All is now well. Engine runs great and has plenty of power.
