Default Evaporator & Pulling the Dash...

So, my evaporator needs replaced. Dash must come out. They want just shy of a grand. Won't charge me to put in back on the refrigerant apparatus since they charged it less than a year back in spring of '15.

Questions: Is that too much? Said part was about 2, labor about 8, and it may take more than a day.

Should I have other stuff replaced, like heater core?....

Should I do this at a dealer? (I'm pricing one out, was kinda afraid to hear what they may charge, this place is the local Goodyear).

I'm gonna do it, I need my AC and tend to keep these until they die!

Thanks for any tips.

The dealer will charge more for parts and labor. The price is OK. What kind of warranty is shop offering.

The heater core should remain OK provided the coolant was replaced as required by the owners manual to maintain corrosion protection.

With evaporator also replace the expansion valve which should be done as standard practice but who knows.

There is a service bulletin for smelly evaporator coil due to improper drainage of condensation. Make sure the mechanic cleans out any mold, etc issues.
