Default headight switch

'04 Camry - My headlights stay on when the key is removed and the door is opened. They have to be turned off manually with the headlight switch. What control/switch is malfunctioning? I have only had this vehicle for less than a year & they havent worked since we have had it.

I assume you put the headlight switch in the "Auto" selection? I am not too familiar with your year Camry.

The switch has a number of positions for auto light.

No 1, Lights turn off when key in ign is turned to lock or ACC and drivers door opened.

No 2, Lights turn off after 30 sec when ign key is turned to lock or acc and all doors and trunk closed. Or with ign key in above positions when any door or trunk is opened and closed.

The remote can be used to turn off lights by closing trunk and doors then pressing Lock.

If doors or trunk are open the lights will turn off in 20 seconds.

Switch positions 1 and 2 are up from lights off position.

Thanks everybody, When I got the car, I read thru the manual. Apparently I did it too quickly. I was expecting them to turn off instantly as I opened the door, as does my '95. After reading your posts, I reread the part in the manual, and they do work correctly. Thanks again for assisting me in not reading the manual correctly....
