Default Hood problem, Help

Met a semi on the highway yesterday and the turbulence caused the front hood on my 2005 Camry to come unlatched and blow up. Has anyone else had this happen or heard of such a thing.

Might also ask at the Toyotanation website but not a common issue on this car.

Is the hood still on the car and in what condition?

The hood has two latches. The first main latch that pulls to open from inside of car and the safety latch. If the hood is still on the car check both latches.

For the main latch make sure the locking system is not binding and not allowing the spring to lock mechanism back closed once the handle inside the car is pulled.

For the safety latch make sure its latch release hook fully engages the "U" shaped clip on the hood. Have had hoods where the "U" shaped clip was too far forward, the result was the latch release hook was unable to hook it fully.

If the main latch was unlocked and the safety latch not fully engaging the "U" shaped clip the hood could be pulled up or pop up during driving.
