Default horn honking, ignition disabled

When I recently tried to start a 2002 LE that had been sitting in my yard for a couple of months, the horn began honking and the ignition appeared disabled. Nothing changed after i charged the battery: Horn honks when I open the door, ignition dead. Do not see any type of alarm turnoff button. Disconnected battery. Reconnected. Any help welcome. Is this a Toyota alarm or aftermarket type?

Is there a blinking light on the dash?

What key are you using. If more then one key try that one.

If a Toyota alarm the owners manual should have something about disabling the alarm.

Thanks for feedback. It was an aftermarket alarm system and I eventually found the reset button. All ok now. JXM

I’d check for a reset button on the alarm system first—these are often tucked away under the dash or near the fuse box. If the horn itself turns out to be the problem or you just want a better one, I’ve had good luck with the ones from https://bosshorn.com/. They’ve been pretty reliable for me, so it might be worth a look if you’re thinking about a replacement.
