Default How to remove steering column cover

Hi,

I bought my 2003 Camry last week as my first car. Because it's my first car I don't really have much experience.

The previous owner of the car had a handicap problem with his leg. Because of this it's installed an mechanial lever to brake using a hand. As I don't have this handicap I want to remove it. I've looked on it and it seems like I have to remove the steering column cover to get to one of the screws/nuts (on the second picture). So my question is how do I remove this? Where are the screws located?

I've attached some pictures:

There are 2 screws on the front outside edges of the steering column covers. Rotate steering wheel and determine if you can see them.

If working in this area disconnect battery for 90 seconds to disarm airbag in steering wheel. If car has an alarm system it will activate when battery is reconnected, thus know how to reset system to turn it off.

From the photos, the hand brake is a bolt on assy. If not up to the task of removing the bracket on the steering column, the rest of the unit should be able to be easily removed. Just take out the bolts and remove any brackets, etc other then the one on the steering column.

FYI Paulm, that hand brake might be worth some money. I'm not too sure or anything but might be worth putting on eBay. I could be wrong though...
