Issues with 98 Camry
Ok here is my issue and i hope someone can help me. On New Years eve (2008) i got rear ended and the car that hit me was a low car, closed to the grow so it hit right at my muffler. I was having issues with the muffler so when the mechanic checked, it found out that due to the accident my Front Flex Pipe was snapped. I took it to the shop and it was replaced. Problems that i was having was that whenever i was on a stop position due to a stop sign or a red light and my Camry was on Drive, the vehicle will kinda shake and the engine will do some weird stuff, it will like get loud and low and like the vehicle is coughin or something. Its weird to explain and goin uphill i will not be able to do no more than 20mph or 2RPM cuz the engine will sound so loud, like is really forcing it self to do its job. If i am on a normal flat road there it is really nothin that i noticed. However, even though there was a job on the muffler i am still goin thru this issues and i dont know what to do or what can it be. I kno is difficult to understand but picture urself being inside a car on a stop and ur car like moving kinda back and forward like is tryin to stay on too and once you press on the accelerate it takes time for it to catch up cuz is trying to do whatever i can but it is having difficulties.
Did the car run OK before the accident? Did person who hit insurance company pay for the repairs? How much body damage was there?
Are you stating when you press on the gas pedal the engine does not rev immediately but takes it time?
When at a stop sign the engine idles rough or wants to die?
On hills it sound bad or 20 MPH or 2K RPM. Can you describe the sound, it is loud as an exhuast leak?
What model engine V6 or 4 cylinder, auto or manual shift?

the only truely bad damage done to the vehicle was the exhauster (muffler) since the opposite person vehicles was very low to the ground. The rear bumper was damage right at the location were the muffler is and the force of the incident push out the side of the bumper.
Yes when i press on the gas pedal the engine does not rev immediately, it trys to kick in and it hits like a torpedo, it likes launches me once it hits whatever point it will like cuz is never the same. N no my car was fine before the accident.
When the engine is on idle and by that i mean when im on a stop possition due to a stop sign or red light its better rough, picture ur car just like jumpin or pushing somethin at the engine, you feel the whole thin inside my car and i bet people can see my car like movin or some sort (is kinda hard to explain perfect) but it does not die.
Yes on hill it sounds very loud and i mean loud (i cant seem to compare it to what at this moment) and the engine sounds like is pushing itself to move faster or even try to get up the hill.
N due to the accident i did had a exhuast leak but everything was repair yesterday.
I have a 98 Toyota Camry 98 4 cylinder automatic transmission LE

If the other person has insurance that is paying for the repairs take it back to the shop and have them fix it.
If the engine idles at 700-800 RPM and stills ratttle around an engine mount may have broken.
Still don't understand what loud means. If the exhaust system was repaired there should be no exhaust noise. If the engine does not rev past 2K RPM it is not reving that much.
Is this grinding, roar. Perhaps a partial plugged exhaust. You press on the gas, the exhaust is plugged and the hot gases are screaming out making noise in the process. This would explain the lack of power. Check for a plugged exhaust system.
Check under the hood for exhaust leaks when you give the engine gas. The impact could have damaged something here.

yes the engine rev while in idle again on a stop possition and when i press the gas it tries to kick in but once it does it launches the vehicle literally. The noise is not coming from the exhaust is coming where the engine is at and when it does it is not all the time i can be idle and it wont do it i drive to the next stop light and within second it will start shaking and then i forgot to mention my engine light instead of steady it blinks (and yes i can bet many ar thinkin, just throw away the car or take it to a shop)
So any leak with the exhaust it has bein taken care by the muffler shop, as i said they fix the Front Flex Pipe, the fix the catalyst converter (front) and the exhauster hinges and a whole where leakin was occurin. Within the muffler as they said there is no other issues but my vehicle as toyomoho said it does have some type of power issues (is not the timing belt cuz a new one was done on October 2008)
So yea, here i am stuck on finding a reason to my car. I do believe that enigne mount does make sense and that could be it. Which over the weekend i will check under the hood and find out if thats is it

Again what is happening?
When the car is at a stop. You press the gas, the PRM rises but the car is very slow to respond. Then something happens and the car really starts to accelerate. You get to the next stop amd the engine is shaking.
When going up a hill the engine makes a very loud noise but the car will not go over 20MPH and the engine 2K RPM. The noise is from the engine, not exhaust system.
Get any codes read, this may greatly help in running down the problem! In some states AutoZone will loan out a code reader.
Use a section of hose as a stethocope to narrow down the location of the noise. Check all areas including passengers side of the engine, valve cover(s), intake air system and transmission.
