Default Low Engine Temperature reading 1995 Camry

My 1995 Camry Engine Temp Gauge never gets to the middle of the scale even on extremely hot days with the Air on. The car runs fine and I replaced the Coolant Temp sensor with the same results. The Aux fan comes only only when the Air is on and goes off when the Air is not on. My next change would be the thermostat... Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Lee..

Test gauge by disconnecting the sender wire and grounding it when the ignition is on (car not running), if gauge goes to hot then gauge is ok. Are you sure you replaced the right sensor? Engine Coolant Temp Sensor is not the gauge sender. Gauge sender has one wire, ECT has two wires. How's your gas mileage? If engine is not enough the mileage will be lower. If all this checks out then replace the thermostat.

I changed the water temp sensor (The one on the thermostat housing) which has two wires going to it. Interesting you mentioned the mileage.. The mileage is crappy around 17 - 20 MPG. I'll try what you mentioned with the one wire. Thanks.

Fixed! Thanks for the suggestion. I had 3 Carmys prior to this but I have never gotten a failed temp gauage sensor.
