Default Lucas Oil Stabilizer

Just me 2 cents on this product from recent personal experience..

1993 camry 4cyl, 250k miles..I live in texas with rediculous summer heat right now.

I use castrol 5w30 high mileage for all oil changes. I recently was Due for an oil change and decided to substitue a quart of lucas to the crankcase and see if it helps as advertised...

After the oil change with added lucas, i noticed a rougher idle and poor acceleration and it seemed like less gas mileage afterwards. I thought i was crazy thinking the lucas would be the culprit, but i did a "drain and fill" after only 100 miles of this oil change to rid the crankcase of the lucas. I put back in 4 quarts of the castrol in, and i am amazed at the improved performance- smoother idle, alot better acceleration.

I read both pros and cons to lucas, but from my personal experience i would never recommend lucas to anyone. It just seemed to make things worse...

Just my 2 cents to other camry owners....

You and I go down a different path to the same goal, that of matching operating oil 'thickness' to summer heat.
I use 5W-30 for normal temp 8 months of the year and a mix of 10W-30 and 10W-40 in the hot 4 months of the year.
I no longer do additives.

I change the oil on my '96 camry LE v6 myself. bought new, now has 247K miles. doesn't burn a drop of oil. I too live in texas (dallas area). I strongly recommend against using any additives (slick50 etc.) of any kind in the engine. I use synthetic oil because I am concerned about the heat and I buy walmart's supertech syn for ~ $21 (used to be $17). just use a good oil, and toyota oil filter, change every 3 - 5000 miles and you'll be fine.

UhOh,

I don't know for sure, but there have been many comments by folks on other sites about the oil being one of the majors. if it helps, I've been using for over 6 years.
