Mice are raiding my 1999 Camry!
Greetings everyone. I know how silly this might sound, but...
I have a problem with mice getting into my 1999 Toyota Camry. They leave all the other cars herealone, even though I am careful to not even get groceries with this car, let alone leave food inside or eat in the car. I've tried traps and poison and nothing seems to stop them. They still get inside, poop everywhere, and chew up any paper they find. My car is an embarassing mess, no matter how many times i clean it, they just raid it again within a few days. Living in the woods is a big part of my problem, but moving is not an option right now.
I've looked around the vehicle a few times and I can't find any obvious method of entry. Doors and windows are always closed. Any suggestions on where to look and ways to stop them from getting in?

Mice can get into the smallest openings.
Suggest checking the spare tire wheel well, the well on each side of it (need to remove the side trunk panel, firewall where the trans cable and wire harnesses run through, water drain for the AC condenser (look for a tube hanging down under the car, passengers side, it route down inside of firewall. You will need to get under the car to see it).
Is it possible the mice never leave the car?
There were some ultasonic sound generators that claimed to discourage mice.
Can you sprinkle something around the interior the car (a non-food item) that will allow to follow the little foot prints to the entry point?

I've had mice problems in several Camry's - 1993 thru 2004. I have a 1998 and a 1999 now and I've been trapping them almost daily in the 98 and probably weekly in the 99.
About a month ago on a very dark night, I put a very powerful light in different areas in the 98 interior and went underneath for any hint of light coming through. I found light shining through under the rear left side of the bumper and it was coming from a vent inside the trunk, behind the panel at the left quarter panel. It's rright down in the rear, bottom left corner of the trunk and it would apparently be to vent the trunk.
It was very easy to pop out and I used some hot glue to attach a piece of 1/2 inch wire mesh over the vent.
The 99 has the same vent, but it has some real thin rubber flaps on it which I think only the smarter rodents figured out and hence the less frequent invasions in the 99.
It's now been a month at the cooler time of year when we expect more invasions, and so far mouse free!!
We also had mouse problems in our 2004. We found a nest in cabin filter and put mesh over the snorkel in the firewall. We've been suspicious we still had an invader and I see it has the same kind of trunk vent. I haven't done anything with it yet, but something to check, maybe with all Toyotas.
Sure beats mothballs & traps & all the other PITA remedies that are being offered.
