Mouldy smell
The A/C evaporate has a drain hose for condensate. Drains out bottom of car on passengers side. If the hose become plugged water can stagnate.
Your odor complaint is not uncommon for 2012, perhaps a design issue. What this is don't know.
The water may not be draining completely from the A/C evaporator resulting in mold or mildew growing.
If under warranty you can try the dealer who may tell you the smell is normal.
Do some research on biocides that can be sprayed into the climate system outside intake to get to the A/C evaporator. You may need to remove the cabin filter and tape over the hole or material may collect on the filter.
Spray until the biocide drips out the A/C evaporator drain hose.
Use a biocide that will not stain items such as carpets. Vinegar is a natural biocide, auto parts stores may sell their own versions.
For driving and engine shut down, set air to outside. The climate system programming may tend to revert back to recycled air. The dealer might be able to program the climate system to no revert to recycled air. Check the owners manual about the default air intake position, recycled or fresh.
The mold or mildew needs to be killed. Then keep the air intake from outside which has lower humidity (plus may be cleaner air).
