Default Oil Filter Insert Stripped

Oil change shop stripped the threads where the oil filter screws in. Won't hold oil. Two shops say unfixable (which seems crazy) and would require engine replacement. I'm somewhat familiar with Helicoil concept but being told "those don't hold". Any advice? 2010 Camry

The screw into the engine block part of the oil filter housing is plastic. How did a plastic part damage the aluminum block?

The oil change shop should have insurance for these things.
