Default P0440

Hi. My wife's 2002 camry w/2.4 four cylinder has thrown the P0440 code, saying EVAP emissions systems malfunction. Is this usually always the fuel cap not being tight? Or has anybody actually had trouble out of the fuel canister/ fuel canister lines? Just wondering if its ever more than just the fuel cap on these cars. Thanks for any input!

If you haven't already done a Goggle search this may help: http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...alfunction.php

If I were reading this I would inspect/replace the gas cap seal first.

Thanks!! Any idea where the purge valve is located? Is it mounted to the intake tube? Looks like this thing runs all the way back to the canister at the back of the car.

I'm not sure on your year but go to this:
http://www.camrymanuals.com/ for a manual and look up "emissions". There is a troubleshooting guide there too.

Anybody know if you can buy just the O-ring for the gas cap local? or have to get it from Toyota? Thanks for the replies so far!

GEE SORRY. There's a devise now where you can push some buttons and then talk to local businesses and ask them questions without leaving your house - it's called a phone. You can't use your index finger?
