P2423 - 2005 Camry 2.4Ltr Confused as to next step
Hi,
Vehicle has 272,000 miles on it and is due for inspection this month. Used to use CataClean and the light went on and off enough that I could manage NYS inspection each year by resetting it and driving it around till it was "ready". This year I can't get the check engine light to stay off.
The vehicle is California equipped and has (3) 02 Sensors. One on exhaust manifold Cat and one before and after the secondary Cat. Was getting P0420 and P2423. Tried running Seafoam through the exhaust by removing 02 Sensor #1 from the manifold Cat through the entire exhaust which only clears the Check Engine light temporarily. It did however get rid of P0420 with just P2423 remaining.
In another thread it was suggested I replace 02 sensor #3 which I did not do. I replaced a leaky intermediate pipe (post Cat 2) and the muffler. That quieted it down but still P2423. Another blast of Seafoam through the first Cat and system. Check engine light off. Reset. But before monitor readiness status is OK for inspection light comes back on. P2423.
I have a Maxiscan MS509 which can do a lot of things. It has an 02 Monitor Test. I ran it and both O2 Sensors 2 and 3 were within the range indicated on the scan tool. For 02 Sensor #1 it said N/A ??????
Now I am completely lost. What does N/A mean? I assume is it is "Not Available". Does that mean the scan tool is incapable of reading the first 02 sensors on this type of Camry or does it mean that 02 sensor #1 is Not Working ??? I hope it isn't the latter because I have no idea how to trace the wiring or how to determine that.
Anyone have any ideas about what I can do?
And Do I really have to drive 100 miles each time I reset the check engine light?
The vehicle runs GREAT by the way which is really disturbing in terms of possibly junking it because of an emissions test.
Regards,
John
