Default Problem with dome light

Hi,

I have a 1998 Camry and I have some problems with my Dome Light (it is not turning on). How do I check what is the problem? I don't think the bulb could be problem. If so, how do I removeandreplace it?

Thanks.

i have the sane car. just take of the plastic lid covering the dome light. it looks like it wont come off but it will with the use of a screw driver then replace the light bulb from auto zone. if that doesnt work also replace the probable burnt fuse.

If not what wildmonk says then it's the door switches. Get some Radio Shack "Control/Contact Cleaner Lubricant" # 64-4315. Unscrew thedoor switches and pull them out slightly. The wiring will prevent too much pulling. Spray the cleaner into the switch so that it gets inside to the contacts and work the switches on/off by hand a minute or two. Screw the switches back in an you should be good to go.

[align=left]the fuses for the dome is either under the hood all the way to the right or it might be behind the tray on the dash.

The fuse for the dome light is in the fuse panel located down and to the left of the steering column. Pulldown the cover. You should see a diagramshowing which fuse is for the dome light. Pull it out with the fuse puller (i.e. the plastic thing that is plier-like or tweezer-like). If it's blown, then you will see a break in the arc. Otherwise it's still good, in which case, the bulb is probably burnt out (not at all unusual for a car of this age, provided it's not been previously replaced). If necessary, follow wildmonk's suggestion as to how to change the bulb.

It's easy.
