Default Replace heater hoses?

I have a 1995 Camry LE I4 with 142,000 miles.

I am going to replace my radiator since it has a slow leak. I will replace the radiator hoses at the same time. Should I replace the heater hoses at the same time? How can I check the heater hoses to tell if they need to be replaced? Should I replace the thermostat, it is working fine?

Thanks for the help, I'm new here.

Unless the heater hoses are cracked or brittle, then I wouldnt worry about replacingthem. I also would go ahead a replace the thermostat, its not like there expensive.

Default RE: Replace heater hoses?

Thanks Jason,

I spoke with my mechanic, who does the more difficult work on my cars, and he said the same thing you did. No reason to replace heater hoses. He said that he hasn't seen a blown heater hose in ten years. I'm not going to replace the thermostat. I'll let you know how big of a mistake that is.

I'm in the middle of replacing the radiator right now. I worked on it yesterday and have most of the work done. Today I have to complete the reassembly and flush and fill the cooling system. I had a heck of a time removing the drain plug from the engine block. It was very tight and I didn't have tools that allowed me to get a good grip and angle on it. I have sore arms and shoulders this morning. I'm not as young as I once was.

Thanks again for the advice.

Ben

If they haven't been replace yet "I would". Be sure to change the thermostat as well. I don't like being stranded with a blown hose or worse a head gasket or motor. 12 year old rubber? Cheap insurance.
