Does anyone know what this is. I had the rack and pinon replaced around 2,000 miles ago. Could this be a result of a poor install?

 

It looks like a constant velocity joint on one of the axles came apart.

Is the shinny aluminum item in the back of the photo the transmission? The item having the long shaft coming out of the shinny thing being the axle?

Is there another axle on the other side of trans to compare with?
