Starting/Running Issue

Starting/Running Issue
95 camry, 4 cyc.
Last week itdieat few redlights during a "town" trip and at idle. After sitting an hour or so it wouldn't start. Next day started.
Replaced: Spark Plugs, Fuel Filter, PCV valve, and cleaned IAC.
Seemed fine, drove around close by and would let it idle, never failed! Hated to get too far from home.
Today, I drove it, it ran fine.Had a short errand to run. No Problems.Got home, turned it off for 30 mins or so, and it wouldn't start.
Waited and hour or so and it fired right up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kinda at witts end, don't care to fix just have no idea what to fix.

RE: Starting/Running Issue
Yes I have a spark in all cylinders.
Last night we replaced the distributor and checked timing afterward. Same results, dies at idle and sometimes will not immediatly restart, turns over but will not run. give it a minute and it will fire right up.Occasionally will do a high rpm, then as it is coming down it will die.
However sometimes it will idle, in park for an hour or soand never do anything odd.
Tonight we replaced the IAC (we just cleaned it the firsttime). I used a toyota part.
Still doingthesame thing. So we checked for vacum leaks.
At a loss... any ideas???

RE: Starting/Running Issue
You could try spraying starting fluid down the throttle body on the no start condition to see if it's fuel related. Don't spray continuous spray, just 2 -3 shots then try to start and see if it catches. If it only dies at idle or low rpm I'dremove the EGR and clean it. That's little to no cost. If the EGR is sticking open then that's a huge vacuum leak.

Pedro- Thanks again for your help.
Well we cleaned the EGR, was very dirty. Put everythiung back on and it ran great. This morning we decided to go on a drive to see. It "tried" to die at idle but brought itself out.
Seems to have this problem most when in the warm stage. Once it gets hot it tends to straighten out.
What next??

RE: Starting/Running Issue
I'm wondering if the EGR is just slow to react now. Try disconnecting it's vacuum line and pluggingso that it remains inoperative (closed), then drive around and see if the condition returns.Did you clean the EGR vacuum modulator filter? It pulls out and can be cleaned also. Haynes describes the EGR troubleshooting procedure as well on page 6-19.

RE: Starting/Running Issue
Think we might have found the problem, posting for others in the future. We replaced the Engine Coolant Tempertaure Sensor. Have made a few trips and so far so good.
Thanks for your help.
