Question Toyota Camry 2001

I have been experiencing a cracking noise while I'm backing out of my drive way. I do not experience that noise at any other time. Does anyone have an idea of what could be the cause?

Thanks for your response, however I put in new rotors and new pads about a month ago, the noise still there. Could the brakes make that noise only while backing out?

4 wheel disk brakes?

The pads would shift in the opposite direction.

Any change in noise when you apply the brakes or a little emergency brake?

My car has only front brakes, I have drums in the rear. We live in a small hill, so when we are backing out of the driveway we are not applying the brakes, as a matter of fact we need to accelerate a little because the car will be backing up hill, I hope i'm explaining myself well enough so you may understand. It is driving me insane, because it only happens while when I backed the car out of the driveway. Once again, thanks a lot for your response.

It could be the front brake pads shifting backward in the caliper holder.

If a popping noise might be the CV joints. Make some 90 degree turns at slow speeds and listen for popping.

Or rear brake shoes moving around. Apply a little emergency brake as you back up, this will shift the shoes a little. Determine if the noise changes.
