tranny fluid type

RE: tranny fluid type
The dipstick and owners manual should have the type of fluid. This may be Dexron III or a Type T, III or IV.
If Dexron III, this fluid is no longer made but may still be in stores. GM replaced it by Dexron VI ATF. GM owns the trade name Dexron.
But they may have changed the name of the Dexron III replacement to "Manual Transmission Fluid" because Dexron VI was hard on some manual transmissions that used to use Dexron II and III. Confused!
Dexron III fluid was often sold as Dexron III/Mercon (Mercon is a Ford license).
Mobil may make a Mobil 1 ATF but make sure it says it is Dexron III compatable.
The Type T, T-III and T-IV is a differant fluid, don't substitute Dexron III for this fluid or vs versa.
It is not that complicated, go down to the auto parts shop and ask the sales clerk, read the labels. Dexron III was very widely used and hence a substitute is on the shelf somewhere.
