Arrow 1st time Camry owner, new 2010 V6 SE...

Just bought a new 2010 Camry V6 SE yesterday, and it's not only my first Toyota, but my first import, so I have several questions.

Gas:
The owners manual calls for regular gas for this V6, but it also says for improved performance, use premium. Will I really get "improved preformance" if I use premium, or is that all hype? Would mid-grade do just as good? Looking for any general thoughts on this.

Oil:
What oil is recommended for this V6? The manual just says to use Genuine Toyota Oil, but doesn't say what that is. I heard you want to use regular oil or a blend until 10K to let your engine "break-in", then switch to a full synthetic. I can't afford a full synthetic every 3K miles, but think I could do a blend. Looking for recommendations here.

After market upgrades:
I would like to at some point get one of those "chips" that improve gas mileage and performance, as well as a cold air intake, but was wondering if those really work and if they would void the warranty? Any other upgrades I could have done that don't cost too much and would actually increase performance and/or gas mileage?

Being a new Camry owner, I am open to any and all recommendations and/or suggestions on how to care for this car. Thanks in advance.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you.

I bought my Camry XLE V6 about six weeks ago. This was also my first import.

As far as gas goes:

Higher octane fuel (such as premium) gives better performance, but worse gas mileage. The difference between premium and regular will be noticeable, but not significant. I personally prefer the 10% ethanol blend, which sits in the middle.

There's also such a thing as "top tier" gas. This has more detergents which supposedly keep your engine cleaner. I'm not sure if they really make a big difference or not.

For oil, the the manual recommends 5W-30 oil for the V6. They recommend 0W-20 (synthetic) for the 4 cylinder. It's kind of buried in the manual. In mine, it's on pages 483-484. If you do use synthetic, though, you can go 5000 miles instead of 3000 between changes.

Hope this helps!
