Default Fuel door

I have a 1998 camry ce. The fuel door will not pop open. The cable works ad the lever moves. Is there some type of spring that causes the door to pop open? I do not see anything inside the door. I can have someone raise the fuel lever and i can open the fuel door manually. Great car just need some help. Thanks

The door hinge is spring loaded to open. The spring can break.

When the door is open manually remove the door/hinge. The Toyota dealer should have a replacement hinge part.

Thanks, toyomoho. I got the part ordered. Noticed that you are a senior member. The 1998 camry that i purchased in may had 16,000 miles. I have changed oil, filter and original tires. Any other special things i should consider? Thanks

Check the rest of the fluids. Brake fluid will pickup moisture and turn black. The corrosion inhibitors in antifreeze wear out with age.

If you have the owners manuals review maintenance items based on time instead of miles. If you don't have the owners manual the site below has the info.
