Cool oil pump failure -"No Warning"?

The 2001 Solara 4cyk- Engine Blue without warning-
Mechanic said the oil pump failed- blew a hole in the bottom of Engine.
Any ideas how much $ to replace Engine, timing belt & water pump?
Thanks very much for your reply.
PS-There was no warning or engine light on...

Did the low oil pressure light come on prior to the engine failing?

What part on the pump failed?

Replacement cost depends on issues as installing a used or rebuilt engine and who installs it, you or a shop. Rebuilt means buying from an outfit that rebuilds engines in mass and sells them.

For shop labor figure around 6-8 hours. Used engine prices vary, $600-900?, rebuilt depends on short or long block, $1500-2000?

Check internet pricing on used and rebuilt engines (Model 5S-FE) that can fit your year of car. The engine model design changed through the years thus you need to get a engine year range specific to your year of car.

Check for both rebuilt short (engine less head) and long blocks (complete engine less some components that you can take of the old engine). Assume your engines head is OK thus can swap this to the replacement block along with other parts as needed.

It also makes a difference as to emissions standards the car was built to, California or 48 states. There is a sticker under the hood with this info.

If your going to have a shop do the work suggest having them find the engine. If there are problems in the future they will be responsible instead of stating you are since you supplied the engine.

I'm pretty sure that cost a lot! Toyomoho's estimation is near enough but I think it would go higher.
