Default 18" rims effect ride?

Wassup all,

I just purchased a new 2008 Camry and wanted to get some 18" rims for it and just wanted to know if any of you could possible let me know what the difference is in ride performance from the stock 16" rims to the 18" rims. Also if anyone could let me know the how much they spend on tires for 18" rims and 17" rims and also the quality of tires they purchase?

thanks in advance.

depending on the profile of the tire..the skinner the profile in comparison to stock the stiffer the ride.

get your tires at costco they have everthing at a reasonable price...

Before the BBS RK rims I had were striped off my car I had BF Goodrich T/A KDW2 I think that they were around 170 each. But they are even better than I Ps2 I have on my E36. You will not feel a huge difference if you do not get too skinny of a tire. But other good tires are Pirelli PZero, Yokahama S drive, and the Avid W4S. One thing to get for sure is wheel locks.

Also note, going bigger will also affect gas mileage. As there will be more load to pull (especially off the start) from the extra weight of 18" rims AND tires.

Remember too, that if you go lo-profile on the tires, you may feel like your 50, but in reality you are probably going at about 60. Always go with the recommended tire for the specific sized wheel.

Not all that true like somebody said check 1010tires website for more info. My 18's are lighter than the stock rims and my speedo is correct. Hope that helps.

as for the ride, It will definitely have a little bumpy effect. another thing is your driving style should also change since your driving on lowe profile tires.

roadwaywholesaletire.com has the best deals ive seen so far. Im putting some 17 " ADR rims on my 99 camry and I found Falken Ziex tires there for $62 a piece. Plus, for $11 more per tire, I can get free replacement for any reason up to 40,000 miles (plus roadside assistance if I need it). not bad huh?

For most people lower profile tires give a toyota a sportier feel since toyota designs their cars for ride comfort.
if the weight and diameter of your tire/rim package do not match OEM then you'll either feel your car is slower off the line and more difficult to break (if they're heavier and larger), or vice versa.

Octapulse: did you pick up falken ziex 512's?

The Falken 512s have been discontinued, and replaced with the 912s. I have a set on my car. Awesome tires. Especially on wet roads. You can actually feel it sticking to the ground. I put the tire pressure from 30psi to 38psi. And handling is so much better now. It's rated for 51psi, but I wanted to keeps some ride comfort. Don't think theres that much difference between the two though.
