99 Camry with 200,000 miles
I have a 99 Camry with about 200,000 miles. I'm the original owner. We've maintained it pretty well. There's a small oil leak that I'm OK living with but the front struts are getting to the point where it couldn't hurt to replace them. My question is, could it be dangerous to not replace them? BTW, the rear struts were replaced in 2006.
Thanks

Typically no.
Stand in front of the car and press down on the chassis to get it oscillating. When the chassis has reached maximum amplitude release it. The chassis should oscillate freely when you push but stop within 1 1/2 cycles after being releasing.
Check the front tire tread for cupping, a sign of bad struts.
Remove the tires and look at the strut body and upper strut rod for damage (unlikely but never know). Check the coils of the spring for breakage (has happened).
Check the area where the strut rod exits the body for signs of oil. Some slight oil film is OK, dripping is not.
The upper strut mounts are known for making a knocking noise with wear.
