Default Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Does anyone know if there's a way to disable the sensor on the car that picks up the TPMS signal? I hate the way the valve stems look and one of mine may actually be allowing a slow leak. I have aftermarket wheels so Toyota will use that as an excuse not to replace it. I'd rather just put regular valve stems in as I check my tire pressure regularly. I just don't want the low pressure light on all the time.

I know a guy who put new rims on his 07 and did 'nt swap the TPMS to the new rims and he put black tape over the light on his dashboard. It worked for him.

I'd rather not have to do the duct tape...I can't remember where I read it, but I thought I'd read somewhere that there was a means of turning it off in the dashboard area underneath the steering wheel. I'm guessing it is simply disconnecting the actual light but I don't know.
