im new to car electronics this is my first time installing a new head unit. i bought a harness and wired everything up and the new unit turns on but it wont play through the speakers. any suggestions

 

What year of car? What stereo did the car come with, factory installed?

Did the old stereo have a built-in amp or remote amp. Which harness did you replace, the complete harness or did you just install an adapter between the old harnes plug and new head unit? Did you use a prefabricated harness of actually spice into the wires?

 

98 camry le came with factory radio with tape deck and cd. not sure about the amp.installed an apapter betweenthe oldharness plugand thenew head unit. prefabricated harness

that sortof helped. i hooked up the harnesses and the radio turns on but its not playing through the speakers

 

Check the Toyota wiring harness colors to determine if it has the following wires:

Blue/yellow, Gray, Light Green Purple and Blue.

Do you have a list of inputs and outputs for the new radio, such as the xx color wire goes to power, xxx is left speaker positive output, etc.
