The touch screen on my 2016 Camry XLE does not respond to the touch (bottom center part). I took it to the dealer and they want $1,638.21 to replace the head unit (it's out of warranty). Any DIY suggestions (maybe a refurbished head unit)?

 

This is a common issue. There is no fix. Suggest looking for a used unit on Ebay or installing and aftermarket unit, which is what most do if the warranty has expired.
