Assuming you have a 4 cylinder- The most likely cause is a stuck EGR VSV.

Accelerator pedal sticks after stopping; I have a 2000 Camry 4 cyl with 160000 miles. Bought it used in 2007. Hard to press down to accelerate.

Thank you.

Whats the VSV stand for? Yes its a 4 cyl. I put some fuel system cleaner in there and made sure the gas cap was on well and the engine light went off after a few hours. You think it will come back on?

You may need to remove the intake hose and clean the carbon deposits built up around the throttle plate. This carbon is causing your throttle to stick closed- requiring a bit more effort to break it free.

VSV= vacuum switching valve . If you had a trouble code stored for low EGR flow, this is likely your problem. Leaving your fuel cap loose will trigger an entirely different code as they are two different emission systems. It is likely the light will come on again.
