So I'm getting a p1135 code on my
Wife's car. It's the air fuel sensor. I was wondering does the malfunction of the sensor have an affect on gas mileage because right now moly wife fills up her whole take and only has 45 mile daily commute to work and home. By the 3rd day she has to fill back up. Once I replace the air fuel sensor will the gas mileage increase?

 

Is this the 2001 Solara?

Yes, a bad sensor can cause decreased MPG. Assuming it is the problem, MPG will return to normal.

If the MPG is this bad suggest replacing the sensor soon as an excess rich mixture can cause converter damage.

You can buy the part and install it yourself.

 

Ordered the part Tuesday from EBay for $31.95. Should be here by Tuesday. Definitely going to install it myself. I'm sure it'll only take about 15 mins at the most

 

The sensor may take a special socket if you can't use a box wrench.

The sensor may come with anti-seize, don't get it on the sensor section.

So I finally got my fuel air ratio sensor in the mail yesterday. Just installed it about 20 mins ago. After installation I did a diagnostic on it to see if the code was still there, and it was. So I cleared the code and cut the car off and cut it back on for 2 mins then off again and ran another diagnostic and the code still popped up. So my question is, is the part defective or do I need to drive it a while before the code goes away.

P.s. I thought the code was suppose to go away after the new part has been installed?

 

How are you able to tell if you gave a bad converter?

 

A bad converter usually comes up as a bad O2 Sensor after the car has had other issues and sensors replaced.
I had a car that I had a bad T-stat and I had codes for O2 Sensors. Changed all that over and still had the codes. Turned out the cat was bad due to the engine never heating up to true operating temp.
