Default New Lug Nuts & Wheel Locks

I was going to get a set of wheel locks for my new 2018 Camry, so I pulled a lug nut off to be sure I got the right kind. Much to my disappointment I found out the lug nuts had those cheap sheet metal caps pressed on to them. Underneath was a regular open steel lug nut. So I ordered a nice new triple chrome plated Forged Chromium Steel set, along with some OEM Toyota Locking Lug Nuts that match pretty well. And a pouch to keep the socket in. The lug nuts come tomorrow, and the locks and pouch will be here a few days later.

I hate when they go on the cheap. The ones you purchased look nice.

They came, and I installed them. Both the lugs and the locks are really nice, and worth the money. Very high quality. I recommend them for anyone who has a Camry. I really wish manufacturers would get away from this cheap, OEM sheet metal covered crap. I had the same kind of lug nuts on my 1991 Ford F-150. I paid for nice Aluminum wheels, (XLT Lariat Edition), then they mount them with those cheap Dorman sheet metal covered lug nuts.

The first time I took it in for new tires, and they hit the nuts with their air impact guns, the sheet metal cap came off of half of them. And most of the one's that didn't distorted enough so you couldn't get a socket on them without forcing it on, by pounding on the extension with a mallet.

If I can buy triple chrome plated, forged steel quality lug nuts for $2 each on Amazon, the factories could most likely get them for half that. I just don't understand why they keep putting that garbage on new vehicles? Especially today when most new cars come with nice, expensive Aluminum wheels.
